SanDisk Extreme PRO USB 3.0 Flash Drive Review (128GB)

Recently SanDisk launched one of the best USB 3.0 flash drives, Extreme (64 GB). It’s  “one of the best” because even more recently, the same manufactures introduced Extreme Pro (128GB), an improved version with double storage capacity and slightly altered performances. This devices 3.0 connection is almost 60 times better then the basic 2.0 bandwidth and with the SanDisk SecureAccess™ program you can be certain that no one will access your files and folders.

The design is described by usability. Measuring 0.45 x 0.84 x 2.79 inches, this products aluminum casing offers the protection a flash drive needs, it resisted pretty well to our shock tests. As you can see in the picture, the SanDisk logo is positioned on the black strip just below the 3.0 connector. Also, a great advantage in my point of view, is that this USB stick doesn’t have a cap. Instead, it has a switching mechanism which unveils and retracts the connector when moved up and down.

In the same picture you may also see the writing and reading speeds. They aren’t actually true. In real life the sequential read speed reached 229 MB/s, while the write one went up to 211 MB/s. It’s not exactly what SanDisk is promising, but still… it won’t bother me when a blu-ray movie will copy in seconds.

If you reached this part you’re probably wondering how much does it cost. That’s the downside, 199.99$. With this amount of money you could buy two Extreme versions, have the same storage capacity, and remain with almost 80 bucks. There will be a slight difference of speed, it’s true, but is it worth the extra 80$?
